Kristen Wiig cast as villain 'Cheetah' in Wonder Woman sequel

Director Patty Jenkins confirmed on Twitter that Saturday Night Live alumna Kristen Wiig has signed on to play the villainous Cheetah in the upcoming sequel to last year's critically acclaimed blockbuster Wonder Woman.

"So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes!"

Wonder Woman 2 has been said to start filming soon and with that a few cast members have been announced.

The Wonder Woman sequel is speculated to be taking place in the '80s where she battles against the Soviet Union during the height of The Cold War. "It's true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family", Jenkins tweeted.

Wiig is obviously best known for comedies like Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters, but she's also ventured into more dramatic fare with movies including 2014's Welcome to Me and 2015's The Martian.

Do you think Wiig is a good choice? let us know in the comments down below! As of now, no other cast announcements have been made but there shall be more to come soon as filming starts. Cheetah's abilities include superhuman speed, unbelievable reaction time, strength, and durability. We may have a new villain that everyone will fall in love with.

But the reason it's cheap is because it's the one flawless example of this kind of situation (well, ignoring what happened to Ledger in real life, which we are doing): Hire an actor you would never think of for the role of a famous villain, people freak out, actor wins an Oscar for the performance. Like Wonder Woman 2, very few details of the Gavin O'Connor directed sequel have been revealed.
