In the past year, "tens of millions" of "Google devices for the home" were sold, while it "sold more than one Google Home device every second since Google Home Mini started shipping in October".

If you take a look at the Home Max, it only launched mid-December and costs $399. However, the Google Home Mini which is priced at just $49 in the United States must have sold in millions. Google will be showcasing its products at CES this week in Las Vegas. After all, the Home Mini was on sale for $29 for most of the season.

Google says since October one Google Home device - both the Home and Mini - sells every minute, with more than 400 million devices installed with Google Assistant. That's not a small number by any means.

With smartphone features, many of these home devices extend the convenience of a virtual assistant. Coming off the success of a Kickstarter campaign, the Homey is now on the market and positioning its brand among some of the largest companies in the world.

Prof Sir Muir Gray claims that virtual digital helpers, like Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant, could help pensioners stave off feelings of isolation.

"As we've added more features-like Voice Match, Broadcast and Hands-Free Calling-the Google Assistant have become even more helpful". Now with their ability to sync with other smart home devices, the benefits are clear. Recently, it was reported Google is selling the Home Mini in losses as the overall cost of making a single Home Mini is more than $35.

Google in November rolled out an update that will allow you to use Home speakers as intercom systems in your house.

When the Amazon Echo entered the market in 2015, it kicked off a new wave of demand for voice-activated smart speakers.
