Mad Catz Global Limited, the legendary brand, leading innovation in gaming hardware for nearly three decades, announced today a surprise return to the worldwide gaming scene.
The new R.A.T.AIR unlike the wireless R.A.T.9 (which I own) no longer requires the user to swap out short-life batteries, but instead draws power from the new wireless activation gaming surface, included in the pack. The company's assets were purchased by a Chinese holding company made up of folks that handled the brand's manufacturing in China.
Gaming peripheral company Mad Catz filed for bankruptcy in late March, but the brand is looking to make a comeback from its financial woes.
Also new are the Strike 4 mechanical keyboard with aluminum frame and RGB lighting, and the Freq 4 gaming headset, built around 40mm neodymium drivers, swappable earpads, and oxygen free copper cable, which true audiophiles love because it gives them something to argue about.
Mad Catz has been a fixture in the gaming industry for almost three decades, so it's good to see the company is back and with it's commitment to quality, maybe we'll see a return to form ... and awesome arcade sticks. Verrey confirmed that the company is in talks with former employees and that it assembled a new internal design team in Asia, but it remains to be seen whether any of that means we still get to see the style of products we got from the Mad Catz of yore.
Mad Catz, the Mad Catz logo, R.A.T., S.T.R.I.K.E., F.R.E.Q. and G.L.I.D.E. are trademarks or registered trademarks of Mad Catz Global Limited. All of these new devices (and possibly more) will be shown off at CES 2018 in Las Vegas. The company took on greater publishing responsibilities for the release of Rock Band 4 in October 2015, alongside its traditional role of producing the game's music-themed controllers.
In its second lease at life, Mad Catz will look to regain its title as one of the top manufacturers of gaming mice and controllers.
"We couldn't be more excited than to begin 2018 by announcing the return of Mad Catz to the global gaming arena". "This is why the new products continue the look and character of the old range so closely, these guys have many years of experience with the Mad Catz product line".
