Paul Pierce doesn't want Isaiah Thomas tribute on his ceremony day

Now, I'm not saying Isaiah shouldn't get a tribute video.

Isaiah Thomas received a standing ovation on Wednesday night as the Cavaliers made their first appearance of the season in Boston.

Here's the problem - that's the night the Celtics will retire Pierce's number.

The 40-year-old - who won an National Basketball Association championship with Boston in 2008 - said he was recently present at Kobe Bryant's jersey retirement ceremony at Staples Center and he liked the way the Los Angeles Lakers played his highlights during time-outs. Pierce is also third in games played, fourth in blocks and seventh in rebounds.

But in an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich (as reported by CBS Boston), Celtics president Danny Ainge assures that the 90-second video tribute for Thomas won't take away from Pierce's big night.

The Celtics had originally prepared a video package in honor of Thomas, but he requested that they save it for a later date when his family will be in attendance and he'll actually be able to play.

"That's Pierce's night [on February 11]". He doesn't have time for an Isaiah Thomas tribute video. Like, I just wanted my family to be here to see it. "That's what it came down to. I wanted my family to experience the love and appreciation of this city and this organization are going to give me on that night". Judging from Paul Pierce's latest tweet, The Truth may end up setting someone on fire (metaphorically) in fewer than 280 characters. He did 15 years here so there's nothing that I can take from him. But if they choose to do it that night, that would be great and I would be honored. "I would be honored".

Danny Ainge confirmed on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich Thursday morning that the Celtics will air their Isaiah Thomas tribute video on February 11 - the same day as Paul Pierce's jersey retirement ceremony.

"It won't interfere with Paul". And Paul understands that, everybody understands that. It'll be a great game and a great moment. "And Isaiah deserves it, in our minds".

"I.T. might have to wait until next year".
