Former President Barack Obama to be Letterman's first guest on new show

Netflix has been pushing its comedy offerings hard lately, airing exclusive specials from Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, and others, but My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman will be a different kind of beast. Obama's appearance on the new show marks the former president's first television interview since leaving office previous year.

On Friday, January 12, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman will debut on Netflix with President Barack Obama as the first guest.

This is the first time Letterman has led a series in over two years.

This screengrab shows a preview of David Letterman (R)'s interview with former United States president Barack Obama which will be shown on Netflix.

The guest list is comprised of movie star George Clooney, activist and Nobel prize-winner Malala Yousafzai, musical superstar Jay-Z, comedienne extraordinaire Tina Fey, radio personality Howard Stern, and former President Barack Obama himself. "I couldn't care less about late-night television".

According to Netflix, the guests were picked because Letterman finds them "fascinating".

The Late Show standby is back for a six-episode series with some of his most impressive friends.

The series will have Letterman doing what he does best, as the press release notes, :"In interviews that take place both inside and outside a studio setting, the conversations are intimate, in-depth and far-reaching, with the levity and humor Dave's fans know and love".

Obama is just the beginning for the Netflix-Letterman collaboration.
