Five-star Barcelona cruise through in Copa del Rey

A 5-0 demolition job with a much stronger starting eleven was more than enough to ensure Barcelona's progress in the Copa Del Rey after being held 1-1 in the first leg.

Barcelona cruise into the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey thanks to a 6-1 aggregate win over Celta Vigo, achieved with a 5-0 last-16 second-leg win at Camp Nou.

Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic also scored for the LaLiga giants, who moved into the quarter-finals with a 6-1 aggregate success.

Lionel Messi scored two goals for Barcelona against Celta Vigo.

The first came in the 13th minute when Messi turned in Jordi Alba's cross into the centre with a shot off the fingertips of the keeper.

Messi then turned provider, lobbing a ideal pass behind Celta's back line to meet the run by Alba, who chipped Alvarez to score.

"It's luxury to have Leo in the side, he's the best in history".

New signing Philippe Coutinho watched from the Camp Nou stands following his club-record transfer from Liverpool earlier this week.

Pione Sisto made a catastrophic one after half an hour, as his slack back pass was pounced upon by Suarez, who finished emphatically. It often looks like Messi is playing a different game to his contemporaries and after getting his name on the scoresheet twice he set up Barcelona's third goal.

Daniel Wass and Hugo Malla struggled to keep up with the pace of Jordi Alba and succumbed under pressure.

Gerard Moreno then smacked the post as Espanyol continued to threaten on the break but he added a second before the break when Tono failed to clear by booting the ball against his goalkeeper allowing Moreno to score.
