There's been a lot of buzz surrounding the upcoming Detective Pikachu movie, but today we're learning that those of us in the west will soon have a video game to go along with it. Nintendo revealed today that Detective Pikachu will soon make his way to the United States in a new video game for the 3DS.
The New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition will hit the US - it was released in Japan late past year - on January 26. That Pikachu could prove vital to cracking the case, as he claims to have worked with Tim's father in the past. Side-by-side, the two friends will be investigating clues and interrogate witnesses, including the many Pokemon that inhabit the city.
If you're wondering why Detective Pikachu can talk, well, that's not really explained.
For those who haven't been keeping up, Detective Pikachu is a mystery adventure game, somewhat similar to the Ace Attorney titles.
A special limited-edition oversized amiibo of Detective Pikachu will also be released at launch. Still, that won't keep me from pushing hard for Detective Pikachu in the next Smash Bros. When used, it will allow players to view all Pika Prompts - short video clips - from completed chapters and those which they missed finding earlier. Nintendo has also announced a North American release for the Pikachu New Nintendo 2DS XL (it was previously released in Japan and Europe).
Great Detective Pikachu might be one of the strangest upcoming releases on any Nintendo platform.
