As per Police official, The Army's Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of state police launched a cordon and search operation in Kaneera village after inputs about the presence of militants.
"They managed to sneak into the nearby forest area, where the security forces followed and managed to gun down one of the militants", a senior police officer told Kashmir Reader.
The slain terrorists were locals and were identified as Muhammad Furhan and Muhammad Farham.
He was also involved in many anti-national and unlawful activities, the spokesperson said. "Security forces retaliated and so far two ultras have been killed", they said and added the operation was still going on. A native of Kudwani, Wani had joined militancy in June 2017. Soldiers allegedly opened fire in retaliation and two civilians sustained bullet injuries in the ensuing crossfire.
"One terrorist was killed in the encounter who was identified as Farhan Ahmad Wani, a resident of Redwani- Khudwani in Kulgam district", he said.
The youth was immediately taken to District Hospital Anantnag, where he succumbed.
While Internet services were suspended in south Kashmir, there were protests in Kulgam's Khudwani village from where one of the militants hailed.
