Amazon Bringing Alexa to Windows 10 PCs

Some of the offerings that are being showcased at CES 2018 in Las Vegas will come with pre-installed Alexa app. Amazon and Microsoft partnered in August past year to let Cortana and Alexa work together.

Acer, Asus, and HP have all announced forthcoming PCs that integrate Alexa: select Acer Aspire, Spin, Switch and Swift notebooks and some Aspire all-in-one PCs; select Asus ZenBook and VivoBook laptops; and HP's new Pavilion Wave PC, which looks most like an Amazon Echo than any of the other devices.

The list of devices that will work with Alexa is likely to be substantial.

Out of the big PC OEMs like HP, Lenovo, and Asus, HP has taken the first step and teased its HP Pavilion Wave system with Alexa for Windows 10.

In addition to coming to its first personal computer, on Friday Amazon released the Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit to bring the AI assistant to more wearables, headphones, and smartwatches. "It now will offer a custom LED to indicate Alexa is listening", the company explained in a press release.

No date was given as to when we can expect the Alexa app for Windows 10, but it should come in spring nonetheless. With the new integration by PC makers, Amazon could be in a position to leverage Alexa's high profile in the home to overshadow Cortana on Windows PCs. Amazon has so completely smothered the home voice AI market that Microsoft has even announced plans a while back to team with the e-tailer company.

Amazon Alexa will roll out on Acer PCs in the USA via an update through Acer Care Center; other regions will get it in mid-2018. The company has successfully created one of the most diverse digital assistant ecosystems with thousands of skills.

Google Assistant, meanwhile, has expanded from Android devices to Google Home speakers and third-party devices, as well.

Acer says it's also adding Alexa to its new V6820M and V6820i 4K UHD projectors.

We don't know whether Alexa support will be included from the get-go or if it'll be added after the new models have already been on the market. Alexa making its way onto machines made by these brands could win it some favor among professionals, and the integration of Alexa for Business could help further its business appeal by helping with meetings, calendar management, and more.
