A publicist for the 40-yeaar-old said in a statement Wednesday that Mayer is recovering and "is in good spirits". Tickets for the show can either be refunded or used for the rescheduled date.
According to Facebook posts from the Dead and Company tour and the Smoothie King Center, the show will not go on Tuesday (Dec. 5) in New Orleans as planned.
The sudden surgery caused Dead and Company, the band Mayer is touring with, to postpone their Tuesday concert in New Orleans. Along with John, Dead & Company consists of Grateful Dead's Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir, as well as Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti.
He was previously scheduled to perform a show in New Orleans with the Dead & Company, but that date has now been postponed.
Dead & Company is now next scheduled to perform on Thursday at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Mayer has additional solo tour dates slated for this month, and it's unclear now how they'll be affected.
He's now set to play at the Alice in Winterland concert in San Francisco with Matt Nathanson and Maren Morrison on December 12.
