Rose's status will be updated as appropriate when he reaches the point of returning to play.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Rose flew to Cleveland on Monday and met with the team's front office personnel and will begin rehab on his ankle injury.

Rose's return was uncertain at the time of his November 24 departure, which was sparked by his continuing injury troubles that have had a major effect on the former league MVP's playing career.

"This has been a very challenging and hard time for Derrick". "We will continue to provide him with support and have patience as he re-joins his teammates and works his way back on to the court".

The former NBA MVP left the team on November 9 after being sidelined with a sprained left ankle. He attempted to come back from the injury last month, but re-injured the ankle after just three games.

However, Rose was so devastated by another injury in what has been a career filled with them that he considered stepping away from basketball for good. He also tore the meniscus in his right knee the very next season. He's averaging 14.3 points in seven games with the Cavaliers, who signed him to a one-year, $2.1 million free-agent contract in July.

Cleveland has surged toward the top of the Eastern Conference after a rough start and have won 11 games in a row. Only 3 of their next ten games are against teams with a record over.500.
