This year's parade will feature more than 100 entries and will conclude with Santa Claus riding atop the Troutman Fire and Rescue ladder truck.

So far the forecast calls for clouds and a low around the freezing mark. The parade in Essex starts at 6:30pm at Talbot St. S and Fairview Ave. and travels northbound to Maidstone Ave. - The town's tree lighting kicks off the festivities at 6 p.m.at the Vinton Municipal Building. Parade participants and spectators are encouraged to bring a toy or gift for a child for the Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots program.

The first parade of the season will take place Thursday night in downtown Courtland at 6 with Miss Alabama Jessica Proctor as grand marshal.

And then don't forget the annual Christmas Luminary at Spotsylvania Courthouse at 4:45 p.m. Sunday. - The 38th annual parade will start at Tanyard Road and end at the Rocky Mount Community and Hospitality Center.

On Friday, the celebration will move to Moulton for the 7 p.m. parade starting at Moulton Mini Park near Lawrence County High School.

In conjunction with the parade, Main Street will sponsor a window decorating contest for merchants and businesses.
