Alshon Jeffery Signs Contract Extension With Eagles

Jeffery, who joined the Eagles this season as a free agent, signed a four-year extension Saturday through the 2021 season.

Jeffery, 27, signed a one-year deal with the Eagles on March 10 after spending his first five National Football League seasons with Chicago. Furthermore, incentives included in the contract will allow it to reach $56 million in total.

Alshon Jeffery took a major bet on himself by signing a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles and that bet has paid off. Jeffery is tied with tight end Zach Ertz for the team lead, and third in the league, in receiving touchdowns with seven despite having just 43 receptions. I'm blessed to have the opportunity to play for this organization and for these fans.

He seems to have developed more of a rapport with quarterback Carson Wentz over the last month or so.

The ability to convince top-tier talent to sign cheap, short-term deals will be even more important once the Eagles have to budget for the cost of an elite franchise quarterback - as they will sometime around 2020.

The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Jeffery, one of the NFL's premier jump-ball artists and red-zone threats, has 347 catches for 5,168 yards (14.9 YPC) with 33 touchdowns through five-plus seasons. "Pumped we get to keep ballin together for years to come!"

In the grand scheme, however, this deal, along with the four-year, $48M extension signed by Tim Jernigan earlier this month, will pay dividends for the Eagles far beyond the production these of two players.

The deal, as stated above, includes $27 million guaranteed.
