Wilshere ready to quit Arsenal to revive World Cup dream

England boss Gareth Southgate has also warned the midfielder that he will not earn an worldwide recall unless he is playing regularly, meaning a likely Emirates Stadium exit in the eyes of Merson.

Hodgson has made no secret of his admiration for Wilshere, who spent the majority of last season away from his parent club in a spell with Bournemouth, for whom he made twenty-seven appearances.

There appears to be no way back into the first team picture at the Gunners for Wilshere and a move in January looks necessary if he wishes to stand a chance of being part of the Three Lions World Cup squad. But we are not playing with a 10 tomorrow.

Wilshere: "I want to be playing for my country".

"I will tell you who, his agent - because that's where newspapers get their stories from. And I'm hoping that we are in a position in March where we can pick him".

"You'd have to ask Arsene why he wasn't at Arsenal last year and you'd have to ask Eddie why he played him as a 10 last year".

Wilshere has been overlooked for a heavily depleted squad due to a lack of game time at Arsenal and Southgate's view that he has not been used in his best position in recent seasons.

West Ham United, Swansea City and La Liga outfit Real Betis are all said to be monitoring the player's situation, while The Telegraph recently claimed that struggling Palace were prepared to offer him a lifeline. There may come a time at Crystal Palace where Jack Wilshere would be just the player we are looking for, but I can't tell you that is the case at the moment, and he might not be available etc, etc. With the 2018 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, the player will need to rack up the minutes in order to remain in contention for a place in the England National Team.
