The Makers of Pokémon Go Are Working on a Harry Potter Game


Wizards Unite is a new augmented reality mobile game created in partnership between Warner Bros. and Niantic - the creators of the hit mobile game Pokémon Go.

There's still lots to learn about Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and we'll be sure to bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available. A lot of the elements found within Pokémon Go will be present in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, but Niantic assures that new tech and gameplay mechanics will be here it as well.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter, as the first novel released in the United Kingdom on June 26, 1997. We've reached out for comment from both Warner Bros. An augmented reality game allowing the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to merge with our humble reality. Forbes reported that the game bought in $180 million in profit to Nintendo as of April 2017 despite them sharing the game with The Pokemon Company and Niantic. As described by Pottermore, "Portkey Games will give Harry Potter fans the chance to be transported into the wizarding world and placed at the centre of their own adventure".

Other than a launch date set sometime next year, we don't know much about the game.

Rumors flew past year that a game was under development but nothing was ever officially confirmed, but now we know for sure. Past that, there's no further details: TechCrunch have no screenshots for the game, and no confirmation on exactly how it will play. For fans of Harry Potter, this is a big deal. This is, of course, all speculation on our part, but we wouldn't be surprised if the game lends heavily from Niantic's Pokemon GO.
