Record-Breaking Performance: Student-Athlete Graduation Success Rate Tops 80 Percent

This year's rate is based on the average of student-athletes who enrolled in 2007, 2008, 2009 and the most recent data of 2010 and also graduated within six years following their enrollment.

With a Graduation Success Rate of 90 percent, Penn State student-athletes tied the university's all-time record. "Graduating our student-athletes is and always will be a priority for the UConn Division of Athletics and this continuing trend of improvement in the Graduation Success Rates is a direct result of that emphasis".

"The Student-Athlete Success Program staff and our coaches continue to foster a culture of academic success and our student-athletes have embraced this fully while continuing to perform at elite levels in competition", director of athletics David Benedict said.

Basketball's score of 75 was a 25 percent increase over last year's rate of 60. The men's golf, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's tennis and volleyball teams all had a 100 percent GSR score, according to the release.

This is the 13th year that the NCAA has calculated data for the GSR and the Wolf Pack's rate has risen nine times in that span.

The football team garnered a score of 80 percent, which was an improvement on last year's 76 percent mark.

One of Barnhart's goals for UK Athletics is a composite 3.0 grade-point average for all student-athletes.

All 13 of Gonzaga's countable programs finished above the national average in their respective sports. The NCAA also calculates the federal graduation rate for student-athletes because it is the only rate by which to compare student-athletes with the general student body. Six teams have a 100 percent GSR: men's fencing, rifle, pistol, men's volleyball, women's tennis and women's volleyball. "There are few better moments than when we see our student-athletes earn their degrees". Under the GSR calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing transfer students who leave in good academic standing. The Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes provides space for private study, computer labs, supplemental instruction classrooms and a private conferencing area for tutoring and mentoring appointments. "The fact that they are leaving as graduates from this world class university is the strongest testament to the hard work of our student-athletes, administrators and coaches who make academics the utmost priority".
