Count Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence among the latter camp.
Fans don't own the celebrities they like, and Lawrence is not the first star to say she doesn't appreciate being interrupted while eating, or doing other regular-person stuff in public.
She continued: "I turn into a huge asshole... and that's kind of my only way of defending myself. Like, if it's Sunday, I'm like, "It's Sunday, I'm not working today".
She explained her predicament by revealing what it's like to hang out with her friend, Amy Schumer. "He conceived it. He directed it", she said of the director's habit that eventually led to the separation. Yeah people are rude and I'm sure it gets annoying but that's like a small percentage of her fans.
Lawrence previously told Entertainment Weekly she wasn't surprised by the divisive audience reaction to her psychological horror film, which received the infamous F CinemaScore. Some people hate it and the people who hate it really hate it.
"Or like, 'Can I have a selfie?' And I'm like, 'No!' That's like my only defense".
Based on how she talks about their experience on the press tour for their film mother! - just a few weeks before their split - it sounds like it was the beginning of the end.
"I realised while I was dancing that they had absolutely no idea who I was so I just turned around and walked back... dying of embarrassment". Pick one. You don't get to have it both ways. "Neither of us are doing it because if I read it, I start getting defensive.' Especially because it's my man", she said.
