Oppo F5 strives to make selfies cooler with AI


Oppo has just launched a new smartphone in India in the form of the Oppo F5 - a bezel-less, selfie focused (which Oppo smartphone isn't?) all-metal handset with some future forward artificial intelligence features thrown in for good measure. The smartphone might launch in two variants - 32GB storage variant with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB variant with 6GB of RAM. OPPO also launched the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant in red and black colour priced at Rs 24,990 as well as an F5 Youth edition in black and gold colours - both these variants will be available from December 2017. The main highlights of the Oppo F5 are its full-screen display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, Google's Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, and an improved 20-megapixel front-facing camera with A.I. Beauty Recognition technology and facial recognition technology. The company is touting over 200 positioning spots that will enable the smartphone's software to accentuate facial features and enhance symmetry to beautify selfies. We did not get enough time to fully test the front camera and its AI abilities, but the little we saw was impressive, albeit a bit gimmicky. It also captures the selfie with bokeh effect. Oppo F5 as the successor to last year's Oppo F3.The device is priced at 15990 Philippine Peso which is approximately Rs 19,985.

The Oppo F5's first sale will start from November 9. Hence with the collaboration between OPPO and Garena, customers will get free "Joker" character in the MOBA game AOV (Arena of Valor). In continuation, the company has launched the F5 with a 20-megapixel front sensor measuring 1/2.8-inches with a f/2.0 aperture and the AI Beauty Technology.

The Oppo F5 comes in a characteristic metal unibody design that features horizontal antenna lines at the bottom and the top end of the phone. Storage is also expandable up to 256GB. This is Dual SIM phone with dedicated slot for microSD card. Apart from this, the device also supports various connectivity options that include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz & 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, hotspot, GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS, USB OTG, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. This phone is packed with 3,200 mAh non-removable battery with fast charger. The low-end version will be available starting November 9 and high-end variant will be available starting from December 2nd.
