Motorists have been warned to face disruption with large parts of Scotland on alert for snow while heavy rain and strong winds lash much of the rest of the UK.
Many places with a warning will see 25-50mm of rain with around 100mm of rain over higher ground. High winds are expected across much of England and Wales. Heavy rain will gradually clear eastwards during Wednesday night. "There remains some uncertainty regarding where the heaviest snow will fall".
Wind warning - East Midlands, East of England, London & South East England, North East England, North West England, South West England, Wales, West Midlands, Yorkshire & Humber.
"Over southern coastal areas and high ground gusts of 70 miles per hour are possible, particularly over the mountains of Wales and Moors of southwest England on Wednesday morning and afternoon and then around coastal areas of the southeast of England overnight into Thursday". Gusts of 50 miles per hour are likely more widely.
The wet and windy conditions are expected to hit most of the country over the next few days, with parts of northern England forecast to be worst affected, although the snow will be confined to Scotland.
There will be delays on the roads and rail with outbreaks of heavy rain that will add to the hard travel conditions.
Commuters and motorists are advised that journey times could be affected.
