'Lady Bird' sets record for highest approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes

When it was revealed this weekthat Greta Gerwig's superb Lady Bird had become the best-reviewed movie in Rotten Tomatoes history, I didn't feel excited, or even surprised.

Lady Bird takes the record previously held by Toy Story 2, which has just the 163 "Fresh" reviews to its name. The film stars Saoirse Ronan as the titular teen who clashes with her equally strong-willed mother (Laurie Metcalf) in California in the early 2000s.

Lady Bird movie has proved that it can equal other commercial movies.

Some other movies who have achieved a flawless score with over 100 reviews are 2008's Man on Wire and 2016's Things to Come.

While both films - along with many others - have a ideal 100% rating, Disney Pixar's Toy Story 2 received only 163 fresh reviews, while Lady Bird is sitting on 170 as of writing.

And, to be fair, there are other movies that have more positive reviews than Lady Bird.

Additionally, averaged across all of the available reviews, Lady Bird's aggregate critical score on Rotten Tomatoes comes in at an 8.9 out of 10, compared to an 8.6 average for the Toy Story sequel. It's hard to imagine how she could've made a better first impression.

EVER SINCE THE trailer for Saoirse Ronan's new movie Lady Bird dropped in September, we have been eagerly awaiting the release of the film in Ireland.

She continued, "That there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true".

“Thank you to everyone who has seen the film and has written about it so thoughtfully. So, yes, celebrate Lady Bird's success and root for it to earn those Oscar noms come 2018 - but remember, it's far from the only film of its kind that warrants this kind of love.
