Jaya TV premises raided by Taxmen for alleged Tax Evasion

I-T officials searched the residence of Sasikala's nephew Vivek Jayaraman, who controls Jaya TV and Jazz Cinemas that are owned by her family members. Their lawyer Kasinathbharathi has further told the media that they will not bow down to scare tactics and will face the issue in court.

Speaking to reporters after conducting gho-pooja at his Adyar residence, Dhinakaran said the raids were aimed at removing his aunt Sasikala and him from politics.

Income Tax department raided the Chennai office of Jaya TV and 186 other locations early on Thursday morning over allegations of tax evasion.

The searches at the Tamil television channel, which is perceived to be politically disposed in favour of deposed AIADMK leaders VK Sasikala and TTV Dhinakaran, were conducted as part of "Operation Clean Money".

"We saw that there were raids against actor Vishal when he spoke out against the government".

"The raids have taken place just a day after the deputy secretary general (Dhinakaran) questioned demonetisation". If the Centre thinks they can destroy us by conducting such raids, they are day-dreaming.

Raid locations included Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Trichy, Coimbatore and other districts at properties belonging to Sasikala's family members and associates.

Reports says that after the death of J Jayalalithaa both Jaya TV and Dr Namadhu have only functioned as the mouthpiece for the AIADMK.

Ever since the demise of former CM and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa in December a year ago, the AIADMK has been witnessing infighting threatening to pull down the government.

Income Tax (I-T) department is conducting raids at All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Karnataka in-charge V Pugazhendi's residence at Damlur locality of Bangalore.

The sleuths also carried out raids on the house of one Sajivan, who supplied wood and interiors to the Kodanadu bungalow in Kotagiri belonging to late Jayalalithaa, they said.

In August, after the merger of Palaniswami and Panneerselvam factions, the AIADMK passed a resolution to retrieve the properties of Jaya TV and Namadhu MGR.

Nanjil Sampath, senior MLA close to Dinakaran said the raids were not surprising at all.
