Corvette ZR1 Will Be Fastest and Most Powerful of Its Kind


Chevrolet has presented a new track-focused version of its Corvette - and the supercar is the company's most powerful production model yet.

Not only does the ZR1 have a more-efficient intercooler system with a heat extractor hole on its hood, but it also packs four new radiators, bringing the number of heat-exchangers to 13.

All told, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 can reach top speeds of over 210 miles per hour (338 km/h). The engine is so tall that the 755-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V8 literally pokes out of the hood. Buyers will get to choose between a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.

"I've never driven a Corvette like this before, and nobody else has either, because there's never been one like this before", Mark Reuss, a General Motors executive vice president, resident vehicle guy, and unabashed Corvette enthusiast, said in a statement. Optionally, customers can fit their new 2019 ZR1 with heated and ventilated Nappa leather seats, a carbon-fiber adorned steering wheel and Performance Data Recorder, among other things. This provides 70 percent more downfornce than the Z06's base aero package and returns the highest top speed.

Both aero packages also include a front underwing.

Both of the rear wings are tied directly into the car's chassis, as on the C7.R race auto, for the best possible strength and stability. Instead, the ZR1's new pushrod V8 features a 52 percent larger supercharger than the Z06's LT4, as well as GM's first dual-injection system to get 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque out of high octane and dense air.

By the numbers, Chevy is hinting at a 0-60 time in the high two second range and the quarter mile in the mid-10s.

On Sunday in Dubai, Chevy pulled the cover off the newest, baddest 'Vette: the ZR1. Meanwhile, the new Sebring Orange Design Package is all about making yourself noticed, inside and out.

A strong engine to be sure, but in comparison to the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 it simply can not compete. Chevy didn't announce pricing, but it will probably come in at just over $100,000, continuing Corvette's pattern of offering bonkers performance for a relative song.

Inside the cockpit, Chevrolet threw in its best mix of materials, including leather for the seats and suede microfiber inserts.

A Sebring Orange Design Package is available, including bright "arrest-me-now" exterior paint combined with matching interior stitching and seat belts, as well as bronze aluminum interior trim.
