Penn State women's volleyball senior Haleigh Washington joined elite company on Monday afternoon when she was awarded her eighth career Big Ten Player of the Week honor as announced by the league office, after leading the Nittany Lions to a 2-0 weekend.
Penn State coach James Franklin and the school denied reports that Franklin would be being considered as a potential replacement for Sumlin at Texas A&M. If Texas A&M moves on - and that's still a big "if" - it appears they'll look in Franklin's direction.
The festivities kick off with a 3 p.m. visit by the Nittany Lion, who'll get the crowed pumped up and pose for photos.
Franklin outlined in the tweet that he is from Pennsylvania, has the No. 3-ranked team in the country and has the No. 3-ranked recruiting class for 2018.
"My family and I are very thankful to be a part of the Penn State community", Franklin said in a written statement after the contract announcement.
This past summer Franklin signed a three-year contract extension worth almost $20 million that would keep him in Happy Valley through 2022. His buyout is $2 million. It was a sign of good faith from both sides after the progress Franklin and the program have made over the past year.
It's not time for Nittany Lion fans to freak out over this reported interest.
Again, all this might be moot, as Sumlin isn't exactly a bottom-of-the-barrel coach. Despite an impressive overall record for the Aggies (44-21, .677), Sumlin may have to finish 8-4 or better to stay in College Station.
