Outrageous gives way to outrageous: Kathy Griffin's replacement as Anderson Cooper's sidekick on New Year's Eve will be Andy Cohen, CNN announced Wednesday. 49-year-old Cohen tweeted.

Cohen, the host of late-night talk show "Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen", will replace Kathy Griffin, who lost her job at CNN after facing widespread backlash in May for holding a fake bloody, severed head in the likeness of President Trump during a photo shoot.

They will bring the show to New York City on January 26 and 27 at the Beacon Theatre.

"I'm going to keep making jokes about this guy", she said. Cooper said in a press release.

Several hours after the grotesque photo was posted - and her gigs and partnerships were canceled - Griffin issued an apology in a since-deleted video. "We've traveled the world together and performed in 30 plus cities with "AC2" and it's all led to this one huge night!" Both Cohen and Cooper have also served as frequent guest co-hosts on fellow friend and media personality Kelly Ripa's morning show, particularly before Ryan Seacrest was named her permanent co-host.

The New Year's Eve special draws on CNN correspondents around the world. "It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate". She said in August in an interview with The Cut that her friendship with Cooper was over.
