The Green Bay Packers were dealt back-to-back blows Thursday night against the Bears when starting running back Ty Montgomery went down with an injury and was followed into the locker room shortly by backup Jamaal Williams. Kendall Wright caught four passes for 51 yards and a touchdown while Jordan Howard carried the ball 18 times for 53 yards and a score for the Bears.
The Packers could have Ty Montgomery back sooner than expected. Rookie Aaron Jones performed admirably against Chicago, with 13 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown, but if Montgomery misses significant time and Williams is not able to get right the Packers may be forced to see what's out there at running back. I think he did a great job, he's a natural runner. "I'm sorry about that, and I'm going to reach out to him", added Trevathan. If he's available, we'd expect a committee backfield with Williams and Aaron Jones.
Both running backs are rookies.
Sims has played all 16 games only once in three National Football League seasons, but he had 51 receptions and averaged 4.9 yards per carry in 2015.
Jones was drafted with the No. 182 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Rodgers mentioned that he has been a fan of Jones' since the beginning.
Green Bay led 14-0 after the first quarter. Montgomery will likely remain the starter moving forward as long as he's healthy, but Jones could force head coach Mike McCarthy to put him on-the-field at times throughout the rest of the season.
