Flu Season Starts Early-Clinics Scheduled Next Two Months

"The goal of the vaccine is to simulate your immune system and so sometimes you can get mild headaches and aches and that's due to your immune system responding to the vaccine", Doctor Rachel Herlihy with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said.

While "Flu Season" generally lasts from early fall through early spring, it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body that protect against flu, so LCPH is recommending community members make plans to get vaccinated early, before flu season begins so they will have immunity once the season is in full swing.

Australia had a brutal flu season during the 2017 southern winter. But the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other medical experts, say the impact of flu season can be minimized if more people get early immunizations.

The government recommends everyone over the age of six months get a flu shot. The health department offers them during regular walk-in clinics Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m., 1930 Ninth Avenue. High dose vaccinations are often administered to older patients.

It is important to note that pregnant women may receive any licensed, recommended, and age-appropriate flu vaccine.
