While streaming boxes are often quick to receive app updates, these same apps can often take much longer to be updated on smart TVs, leading to users missing out on features like 4K and HDR when they get added to streaming services. Apple said that 4K movies will soon be available from the iTunes Store for the same price as HD movies, and your existing HD iTunes movies will be upgraded to 4K HDR at no additional charge!

You'll also find CBS News, The Weather Channel, Vimeo, YouTuibe, Facebook Videos, VEVO, PBS and many other apps that allow you to stream videos and movies to your TV with a purchase or with a subscription. Compare all of those to Apple's new Apple TV 4K at $179 to start with 32GB on board, and $199 for the higher capacity version with 64GB and you can see there are a lot more cheap routes to 4K HDR streaming video. So, Apple fans can now watch higher-resolution streaming video. The standard Apple TV with 32GB of storage drops to $149.

It's available to pre-order on the 15 September and will start shipping on the 22 September.

Amazon, Roku and Google's Chromecast have already been updated to support 4K resolution, so the Apple TV 4K brings the iPhone maker's set-top box onto the same playing field. Apple finally catches up to the competition with 4K HDR support that can deliver much better looking videos on your TV or Projector.

The Apple TV 4K is also getting support for Amazon Prime Video before the end of the year, and the iPhone maker said it's actually teaming up with Netflix to create more 4K titles.

The new Apple TV is run by the A10X Fusion chip, features 3GB of RAM, and will be able to handle 4K content at up to 60 frames per second.
