AR Unemployment Climbs to 3.5 Percent in August

Total nonfarm jobs in Pennsylvania were up 1.0 percent from August 2016, while jobs in the United States were up 1.4 percent.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says unemployment increased from 4.8% in July to 5% in August.

Unemployment was 4.8 percent in July, and it stood at an all-time record-tying low of 4.7 percent seen in both May and June.

EDD said the number of unemployed Californians was 972,000 in August, up 46,000 from July but down 59,000 compared with August past year.

In August, leisure and hospitality employers added 3,700 jobs with education and health services hiring 2,200 employees.

The Department of Labor in its analysis of the job numbers says it is possible the upward trend in unemployment is just "statistical noise".

Arkansas' nonfarm payroll jobs decreased 2,600 in August to total 1,241,200. "This growth was concentrated in the private sector, with three industries adding more than 1,000 jobs each", said Labor Economist, Emilie Doerksen.

The number of jobs in the area also hit an all-time high of 191,751, which was up more than 5,100 from a year ago. DE had 1,000 more non-farm jobs in August than in July and has added 3,200 since this time a year ago. Manufacturing saw a monthly gain of 6,600.
