But despite the task ahead, Wakaso is certain that a win against Madrid will kick-start the campaign.

Zinedine Zidane's side made the breakthrough in the 10th minute, however, when Ceballos worked some space inside the Alaves box before finding the bottom corner with a smart finish to register his first Real Madrid goal.

This third victory brought Madrid up to fourth in the standings with 11 points, 4 points behind Barcelona's new finish 5 parties.

But Ceballos put Madrid back in charge when he fired in a ball that goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco spilled when he collided with a teammate while defending a cross.

The club confirmed via press release yesterday afternoon the Brazilian defender had suffered a grade two hamstring injury (mild tear) during the shock 1-0 loss to Real Betis this week.

It was the Dani Ceballos show at the Mendizorrotza, as he opened the scoring with a well-taken strike, only for Manu Garcia to deservedly draw Alaves level in the 40th minute. Marco Asensio played in Ceballos, who cleverly cut the ball back before finishing the chance for the lead.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Isco also wasted opportunities to add to the lead, and just before half-time, Los Blancos paid the price.

The winless Alaves nearly leveled late when substitute Alfonso Pedraza twice hit the woodwork.

Pedraza hit the Real Madrid woodwork for the second time in the 76th minute following a mistake from Varane, and a late goal or two appeared certain with both defences looking shaky in the second period.
