Almost two years after it was revealed that Oscar-winning producer Aaron Sorkin started work on writing the script for an authorized Lucille Ball biopic, they've finally found the actress who will play the iconic star in the film - Lord of the Rings franchise star Cate Blanchett.
According to 'The Hollywood Reporter' a new feature film landing at Amazon has found its Lucille Ball in Our Cate. The internet giant's studio wing has snapped up Luci and Desi, a high-profile biographical flick covering the relationship between I Love Lucy co-creators Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.

The feature, from production company Escape Artists, will explore the life and love story of the United States actress/comedienne, during her 20-year marriage to Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz, with whom she eloped in 1940. The pair married in 1940, eventually creating the iconic sitcom I Love Lucy, through their production company, Desilu, which went on to launch multiple other shows.
Lucy and Desi with Lucie and Desi Jr.in 1953. The search for a Desi Arnaz, Ball's husband on and off camera (for a while), continues, as does the hunt for Fred and Ethel portrayers Vivian Vance and William Frawley.
Blanchett, meanwhile, has been nominated for six acting awards by the Academy, taking home the Oscar for best performance in 2004's "The Aviator" and 2013's "Blue Jasmine". The Australian actress might not be known for her comedic roles, but as Ball said herself: "I'm not amusing". The project written by "Moneyball" scribe Sorkin was first announced in 2015 and has been making the rounds since.
