The last total eclipse that crossed the entire continent was June 8, 1918.

Micro explosions on the sun's surface - known as nanoflares - could play a part in this puzzling phenomenon, and the eclipse offers a rare opportunity to observe them. We know the ecliptic by the constellations that mark it in the sky - the constellations of the Zodiac.

With a five-degree tilt, the moon's orbit isn't perfectly aligned. It will be 2053 before Bladen County will see a solar eclipse of this magnitude again, and the next total eclipse Bladen County will see will occur in 2078.
