Andrew Luck to open training camp on PUP — Colts GM

Indianapolis Colts General Manager Chris Ballard met with local media on Monday afternoon and provided an update on franchise quarterback Andrew Luck.

Ballard mentioned Luck has begun the throwing phase of his rehabilitation from right shoulder surgery in January and has not experienced any setbacks in his rehab.

Quarterback Andrew Luck will open camp on the PUP list, but is expected to come off before the start of the season. He played in seven games in 2015 due to injuries and missed a game a year ago because of injury.

No one should be surprised if Luck sits out the four-game preseason.

Ballard would not say Luck is a definite for Week 1 of the regular season against the Los Angeles Rams on September 10.

"We're exactly where I thought we'd be at this time", Ballard said. "We're going to continue to follow the doctor's orders and the rehab process".

Ballard also says safety Clayton Geathers will go on the PUP list with a neck injury that will keep him out of at least the first six games of the regular season.

It remains to be seen just how much Luck will play in the preseason. He originally suffered the injury in Week 3 of the 2015 season.

Geathers tried every option possible before eventually deciding to have surgery in March, which has put him on the sideline the entire offseason. The first-round draft pick was held out of all of the team's offseason work after undergoing surgery following his final season at Ohio State.
