Chelsea to host Burnley in EPL season opener

Chelsea will open the defence of their Premier League title at home to Burnley when the season kicks off on the weekend of August 12-13.

Runners-up Tottenham Hotspur will take an away trip to Newcastle United on the first day of the campaign and their festive period involves a home game against Southampton on Boxing Day, followed by West Ham at White Hart Lane before travelling Swansea on New Year's Day.

Huddersfield are away to Crystal Palace, while Championship winners Newcastle welcome Spurs to St James's Park.

The first Manchester derby of the season will be played at Old Trafford on 9th December, the same weekend that will see Liverpool host Everton at Anfield in the first Merseyside derby. They then play Bournemouth (a), Liverpool (h), Watford (a) and Crystal Palace (h).

United's first significant test in their attempt to improve substantially on last season's sixth-place finish comes courtesy of a trip to Liverpool on October 14, and a home game versus Arsenal and Mourinho's nemesis Arsene Wenger on April 28 figures to be particularly important to any title or Champions League aspirations.

The first Mersey derby will be held at Anfield towards the start of December while Liverpool will end the season with newly-promoted Brighton at home.

"It is also the ideal fixture for City and ourselves, because we have great respect for each other and will both be looking for the same positives from the game, in terms of fitness and preparation for the start of the Premier League season a week later".

This time around it is much different and Spurs will also not face as many big clubs either after playing in the Champions League. They take on Chelsea on 16 September and face rivals Tottenham on 18 November and 10 February.

Arsenal and Tottenham will meet in the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium a few weeks earlier on 18th November.

Town's benign-looking start continues in September when they make their first ever visit to the London Stadium to visit West Ham on September 9.

"Those days will be extra special for me, but really every game is exciting and every game has its own challenges". Everton and Arsenal come to Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea travel to Brighton and Stoke.
