Guus Hiddink backs Conte to stay on as Chelsea manager

Conte restored Chelsea's championship status with Friday's 1-0 win at West Brom, after the Blues finished 10th last term in defence of their 2014-15 crown.

The Italian Press is bursting with pride as Antonio Conte's Chelsea won the English Premier League soccer title.

For a club that can be toxic and leaky, there have been few flashpoints this season in the first year under Conte.

Chelsea are reportedly set to have to look elsewhere as Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson may stay with the club despite relegation this season. And we have to improve next season.

Conte, meanwhile, also intimated his desire to stay at Chelsea, believing the Blues can get even better after their Premier League title triumph. "This is me", Conte said.

"We have started to do our work".

If Conte was suddenly serious talking about that, he was much jokier when discussing one of the key moments of the night: the decision to introduce a player who barely featured in Michy Batshuayi, who then scored the key goal.

"I am very angry because everything is happening in the same positions. For this, I want to say thanks to my players; they trust in a new work, in a new philosophy, a new football, new analysis, the mistakes, the positive and negative situations".

Conte has stuck with back three of Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill and Luiz throughout the 2016-17 Premier League campaign. We have the same ambition.

Costa had threatened to douse the flames and jeopardise the title bid in January, when he apparently had his head turned by a lucrative offer to join Chinese Premier League side Tianjin Quanjian. I think that we have also another target to try to reach because we worked very hard to reach the final of the FA Cup and then it's important to prepare in the right way for next season. That being said, the motivation might be low and perhaps the best performance might not be demonstrated by the players who will feel down. We have had three competitions this season - league, FA Cup and League Cup - and for this reason I think some players didn't find a lot of space [to play].

Chelsea had an unlikely hero as Batshuayi came off the bench to score just his second league goal of the season.

And now they'll be able to focus exclusively on beating Arsenal to win the FA Cup at the end of the month.
