There's a new Boost Mode for PlayStation 4 ProSony PlayStation 4 Pro Review Sony PlayStation 4 Pro Review Is the PS4 Pro such a big improvement that it's worth upgrading, or just a failed experiment? According to Sony, the new feature "has been created to provide better performance for select legacy titles that have not been patched to take advantage of the PS4 Pro's faster CPU and its faster and double-sized GPU".

Sony assured that the user that it will render smooth gameplay with faster frame rate. The PS Messages and PS Communities apps are both being updated too. Depending on the game, the increased CPU speed may also result in shorter load times.

While Boost Mode was still under beta testing, the Digital Foundry team looked at some of the most popular non-Pro PS4 titles, and found that many of them benefited significantly. Additionally, the setting can be turned off so that the experience is that of a standard PS4. And Sony added a PSN service status indicator to the Communities app.

Also on the Communities app, iOS users can tell at a glance if there are any new posts in their community by checking the badge app icon (the number in a red circle at the top-right corner of the app's icon). There's always the possibility that enabling it could introduce oddball bugs, but most of the reports we've seen have been overwhelmingly positive.
