Leonard returns to announcing for Thurman-Garcia bout

Thurman's most recent bout, a unanimous decision win over Shawn Porter in June at Barclays Center, also was shown on CBS.

"I just let myself be a trapped animal, man". I paid no mind to it. I'm happy to be in this moment with all these people here. "I have to go in there and keep my composure and be the same Danny Garcia that I always am", he said. I think because we started our broadcasting careers at the same time, we found many things in common.

Beating Garcia might put him at that level. Its you. You are stopping me from being the best me I can be.

And with the 147-pound division as one of the hottest in the sport, Garcia and Thurman became the anticipated fight and NY as the host.

Garcia, a Philadelphia native, reveled in the notion that he isn't expected to win.

"I've been the underdog before".

"I've been the underdog before", Garcia said.

"Ray and I formed a bond many years ago that has endured the test of time", says the son of the former mayor of NY. This leads me to believe that we'll see the best of Garcia this Saturday night. Both guys are great champs and both of them could take punches. I think my power and my boxing IQ will be the same. "I'm gonna fight with all my gut, because I'm coming for the glory!"

To Garcia, though, it's the latest in a long line of high-profile tests. I wanted a fight right away and he was one of the names that came up so I took it without even giving it much thought. That's what we train so hard for. There will be a lot of excitement on Saturday night, and will give fight fans something to talk about. And ratings, which are so important for the sport are sure to surpass Thurman and Shawn Porter past year that was also held at Barclays and viewed by 4 million. I have more milestones than Thurman.

Keidel: Best fight of your career? .

"I do favor Thurman because he just seems to be a little bit more poised and collected", Leonard said. The bouts pit top 10 champions against top 10 challengers, and each fight had the star power needed to corral the old viewership and grow a new base of fight fans.

A fight of this caliber is nearly always a pay per view event, but DiBella Entertainment and Premier Boxing Champions were able to bring it to the people for free on CBS. Saturday I have an opportunity to unify another division.

The programme is called Premier Boxing Champions, and will be broadcast live on BoxNation from 2am British time. There was a time that - and everybody understands how pay per view makes money - but when it comes to the sport and getting that recognition, boxing needs to return to the people.

Thurman-Garcia will be the first world title unification bout in any weight division on live network television in more than 20 years. You've got to have great composure. You get to see Tiger Woods (in golf). "You're talking about Amir Khan, Olympic silver medalist, two-division champion".

With Garcia being weeks away from turning 29 and Thurman turning 28 this past November, both fighters are peaking and no doubt the victor takes a giant leap into becoming a participant in a future super-fight - perhaps against the victor of the upcoming IBF welterweight title bout between Kell Brook and Errol Spence. However, Leonard also admitted that he "wouldn't bet my house" on his choice to win their welterweight title unification fight.
