But the ride's replacement, Guardians of the Galaxy: Breakout, should be a worthy consolation.
On Wednesday, Disney California Adventure Park announced that the new Guardians of the Galaxy-Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction will open to the public on May 27.
The ride will still subject courageous passengers to a series of drops amidst a more comical, sci-fi tone than its predecessor.
Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout, formerly known as the Tower of Terror, will open May 27, 2017.
The opening of the new ride will be part of Disney California Adventure's Summer of Heroes, which runs from May 27 through September 10.
Disney seems to be taking further cues from their Star Wars experience as the Avengers Traning Initiative seems like an adaptation of the Jedi Academy concept that has worked well in Tomorrowland and Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida.
It all takes place in the former space occupied by the "Tower Of Terror".
Deep inside his fortress-like collection, the mysterious Taneleer Tivan (aka The Collector) is displaying his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The following activities will be available for a limited time, as part of the "Summer of Heroes". Black Widow and Hawkeye will be assembling young recruits and test their skills to joing the Avengers in Avengers Training Institute.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due out in theaters May 5. The Summer of Heroes banner they released prominently features baby Groot. Summer of Heroes promises more epic experiences with superheroes, which include partying with Star-Lord and having an encounter with Captain America and Spider-Man.
Fans will also be able to meet Black Widow, as she rolls through the park in an armored Avengers vehicle.
