Corker withdraws as Trump VP candidate

The freshmen senator told Politico, "I'm just getting started here". Which is kinda like going into the boardroom of "The Apprentice" and telling host Donald Trump, "You know what, let me save you the trouble".

No other reported VP possibilities have much reputable foreign policy experience, and Trump's credibility on the issue is (justifiably) under attack.

He told CNN: "His best running mate by the way would be Ivanka". "I spent a good deal of time with Ivanka and Jared", Trump's elder daughter and her husband, Jared Kushner. Today, Ernst used words like "attentive" and "very thoughtful" to describe Trump's demeanor during their recent conversation.

He appeared with Trump at a campaign rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Tuesday.

Also on Wednesday, Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst (Iowa), who, according to multiple reports, would rather remain in the Senate.

More traditional picks - US Senators Rob Portman of OH and Marco Rubio of Florida - long ago said they have no interest.

"I will admit that I am a Mike Pence fan", Ernst said. "I am confident that Republicans will keep the IN governorship", Thompson said.

Corker said he has been offered a speaking role at the Republican National Convention that begins July 18 in Cleveland, but that details still are being worked out.

Pressed on whether she has discussed being Trump's running mate with the candidate himself, Ernst deflected, saying they discussed Iowa's importance in the upcoming election.

The loss of Corker as a potential running mate may seem like a blow to Donald Trump's hunt for a running mate, but there are plenty of candidates left who are still being vetted. Interestingly, both said they will be available to Trump as advisors, but neither fell into the Trump trap that could end a political career.

"It's a highly political job, and that's not who I am. They want to have their names thrown into the hat", he said.

Ernst plans on acting more like an "advocate" for the GOP nominee, she said.

The Tennessee Republican has recently been warming up to Trump and in May offered to advise Trump on foreign policy at the real estate mogul's request.

On Wednesday, Trump is set to campaign with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in Ohio.

Joni Ernst of Iowa, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Sen.

But Trump's campaign has been quiet about who he'll pick - and when he'll make an announcement. And he said that he would be open to considering another potential role in a Trump administration.
